Society for Critical Care Medicine/SCCM

The SCCM is the largest critical care medicine organization in the world. MMI's Andrew Schulman is the first Certified Medical Musician to become a professional member of the SCCM.

ICU and Cognitive Impairment Study Group

Board of Advisors member Dr. Wes Ely and his colleagues at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center do world–renowned work with a special focus on ICU Delirium, a key area where medical musicians are valuable team members.

Institute for Music & Brain Science

Founder/Director Mark Jude Tramo, M.D., Ph.D., Musician/Composer. Mark appears in Chapter Five of Waking the Spirit.


National Institutes of Health (NIH)

NIH is one of the world's foremost medical research centers, Francis Collins, Director, is a guitarist. MMI guitarist Michael Bard is now a medical musician at NIH.

Institute for Music and Neurologic Function

Co-founded in 1995 by Dr. Oliver Sacks and Dr. Concetta Tomaino. Executive Director Tomaino appears in Chapter Fifteen of Waking the Spirit.
